What is a common issue €2 coin?

A common issue is a €2 commemorative coin that all euro-area countries issue in the same year. The design is shared, but each country adds its own name and, on some issues, text in its own language.

Common issues mark moments that matter to the euro area as a whole. Examples include the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome in 2007, ten years of Economic and Monetary Union in 2009, ten years of euro banknotes and coins in 2012, 30 years of the EU flag in 2015 and 35 years of the Erasmus programme in 2022.

Because every euro country issues its own version, one common issue results in many different coins. Collecting the complete set for a single common issue is a popular goal for collectors.
