Croatia is a country in Central and Southeast Europe, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. On 1 January 2023 Croatia adopted the euro and became the 20th member of the euro area.

The Croatian euro coins feature four designs representing the country's identity and heritage, all with the distinctive Croatian chequerboard pattern in the background: the €2 coin shows the outline of Croatia's geography, the €1 coin depicts a marten (representing Croatian wildlife), the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins feature inventor Nikola Tesla, and the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins display the HR ligature (representing the Croatian name for Croatia).
