Monaco is a tiny city-state located on the Mediterranean Sea. On the landward side, the country is completely enclosed by France. Monaco has been paying with the euro since 2002.
Monaco has issued 24 regular coins and 16 commemorative coins.
The Monégasque euro coins feature three different designs: the €2 coin depicts Prince Rainier III, the €1 coin shows a double portrait of Prince Rainier III and Prince Albert II, and the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins feature the Grimaldi Royal family's coat of arms and seal.
Following Prince Albert II's accession in 2006, the Monégasque euro coins feature new designs: the €2 and €1 coins depict Prince Albert II's portrait, and the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins continue to feature the Grimaldi Royal family's coat of arms and monogram.
Starting in 2025, the €1 and €2 coins feature a new effigy of Prince Albert II, while the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins continue to feature the Grimaldi Royal family's coat of arms and monogram.
