Since the 1960s, the European Union has striven for an economic and monetary union. In 1979, the European Monetary System (EMS) was introduced. Through three phases the result of this was the introduction of the Euro in 2002.
Minting coins is a process executed by a mint. In the Eurozone the different coins are minted at different locations. This article describes the process of minting coins and gives some information about mints in the Eurozone.
