Malta is a small country located in the Mediterranean Sea. The country consists of three islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta joined the euro zone in 2008.

The Maltese euro coins feature three different designs. The €1 and €2 coins depict the eight-pointed cross of the Sovereign Order of Malta, the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins show Malta's national coat of arms, and the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins feature the Mnajdra temple complex (a prehistoric UNESCO World Heritage site).
